Fire-Retardant Curtain Fabric: Certified to M1, BS 5867, and NFPA 701
Fire-retardant curtain fabric is not optional in GCC hospitality projects; it is a civil defense requirement, a hotel brand compliance requirement, and a liability issue in the event of fire. The challenge for procurement managers is that multiple standards are in circulation, and supplier certificates are not always issued by accredited independent laboratories.
Alvora Global Fabrics supplies FR curtain fabric certified to M1 (NF P 92-503), B1 (German standard DIN 4102-1), EN 13773 (European curtain and drape standard), and BS 5867 Part 2 Type B. For projects specifying US hotel brand compliance, NFPA 701 certification is available on request. All certificates are issued by accredited independent laboratories, not supplier self-declarations.
The most important distinction in FR fabric procurement is between inherently FR and topically treated FR. Topically treated fabric receives an FR chemical coating after weaving. The treatment washes out over 20–50 cleaning cycles, after which the fabric is no longer FR-compliant. Inherently FR fabric has the flame-retardant property built into the fiber chemistry; it cannot wash out. For hotel curtains cleaned regularly by housekeeping, inherently FR fabric is the only appropriate specification.
Our FR Blackout (AGF-BL-01) and FR Dimout (AGF-DIM-01) both use inherently FR polyester fiber construction. The FR performance is permanent for the life of the fabric. M1 certification covers the most demanding European fire reaction classification for textiles; a fabric that passes M1 will also satisfy BS 5867 Part 2 Type B and typically NFPA 701 as well.
